Born in Wonosobo, Central Java, Indonesia, in 1985, he is a self-taught filmmaker, artist, writer, and singer-songwriter. He is an alumnus of the Berlinale Talent Campus in Germany and the Asian Film Academy in South Korea, where he received the BFC & SHOCS Scholarship Fund. Since 2005, he has worked in the film industry, producing and directing various short and feature films that have been showcased at prestigious national and international film festivals. He is the co-founder and executive producer of Matta Cinema Production, an alternative production house focused on creating audience-based, artistic films in collaboration with unique and creative directors for global audiences. He is also the co-founder and executive producer of the Bosan Berisik Foundation, a non-profit interdisciplinary laboratory that empowers young filmmakers, artists, and writers to create innovative and experimental works across various media. Ruang Basbeth Bercerita is both his publishing company and personal space for exploring free writing, narratives, and storytelling within the social and cultural context of his work as an artist, filmmaker, writer, and singer-songwriter.
